SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS PROGRAMME The Sustainable Business Programme involves working with local entrepreneurs who either have their own business or want to start one. We deliver a 10-12 week training course about business and sustainability essentials. After this, individuals get the chance to receive a grant from the Trust, in order to help them develop their business ideas. This programme is currently only open to bahasa Indonesia speaking volunteers due to the fact it is delivered in that language, however if you are interested in being involved in the curriculum design then please also get in touch! English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher One of our most popular placements. The ESL Teacher placement gives volunteers an opportunity to hone their teaching skills and gain valuable experience that will help with future employment, all whilst exploring one of the last true wildernesses on Earth. On this placement, you will make a huge impact on the lives of children in North Sumatra by providing them with high-quality education in the English Language completely FREE! Placement Overview Travel to the very edge of the wilderness to our Hub in Bukit Lawang. Situated on the edge of the Endangered Leuser Ecosystem which is the last place on Earth where you can find Elephants, Tigers, Rhinos, Bears and Orangutans living together in the wild! You will contribute towards our program objectives of giving all of our students equal access to English language learning and work to deliver a comprehensive ESL curriculum to students from up to 10 different rural communities across North Sumatra. You will spend most of your time at our community centre in Bukit Lawang delivering English classes to a wide range of classes of varying ages and abilities, including an adult class, advanced class and role specific classes! Your Impact During the course of your placement as one of our English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers, you will be delivering a comprehensive curriculum built around the University of Cambridge ESL curriculum. You will be providing FREE education to hundreds of students who otherwise may not have access to get themselves.Our ESL program has been designed from day 1 alongside the communities we serve to ensure that our program is needed and wanted by the local people. International Volunteers International Volunteers, we need you! We are looking for English speaking volunteers to support us in delivering education in North Sumatra, Indonesia. We are based on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. The last place on Earth where wild orangutans, elephants, tigers, rhinos and bears live together. All you need to be able to do is speak English, if you're keen check out the information below! Apply Now Requirements Dates Inclusions Right now we are recruiting volunteers to support our English as a Second Language Programme (ESL). We need people during the summer months, Jun - Sept. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for to gain experience in the field of education or charity work, specifically for those people interested in conservation, the environment and community development. The full details of the volunteer placement and everything that is included are listed below. We are currently recruiting volunteers for June to September 2024 You need to be able to travel to Indonesia for a minimum of one month during this period. We would love and encourage you to stay for longer though! ​ We can be flexible with dates, so if you are interested please get in touch below! Dates What are the requirements? You must speak fluent English...and that's pretty much it! ​ No experience or qualifications are needed. But what is essential is that you have a positive attitude, you are willing to work hard and get stuck into whatever is thrown at you. ​ You must have a desire or passion to support others and make a meaningful difference in the world. ​ You need to be able to travel to Indonesia for a minimum of one month between June and September 2024. ​ It's great if you care about the environment or have a love for nature. All our education programmes at the Trust have the aim of empowering local people, so that they can shape a positive, environmentally sustainable future for themselves. Specifically so that they have options to turn away from the traditional environmentally harmful industries that have decimated the region. Requirements What is included? APPLY NOW Placement Overview This program takes Youth Rangers through a range of workshops and interactive activities including sessions such as tree planting, forest clean up, community composting, community recycling, river crossing, Youth Rangers patrol duties and a range of ‘for environmental change’ sessions. These workshops are delivered both at the Trust and at our target communities in Batu Rongring, Batu Katak, Bukit Lawang, KenditrLanbau and Bohorok. The program gives our Youth Rangers opportunities to learn about what is happening in and around the Tropical Leuser Ecosystem here in North Sumatra, its major threats and ways to protect it. Your Impact As a Youth Ranger Instructor you will be on the front line of environmental conservation. You will take the lead in training the next generation of Jungle Rangers to protect severely endangered species of animal such as the Sumatran Tiger, Elephant, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Orangutan & Sun Bears. Teach your students the basics of navigation, silent communication, animal recognition and tracking, flora and fauna species and much more! E very one of our placements includes a 2 day expedition into the Tropical Jungle! Alongside your work as a Youth Ranger, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of traditional workshops including organic soap making, bamboo weaving, tree planting, Eco brick making and traditional Indonesian cooking classes! Lebih dari 2,4 juta hektar hutan hujan Indonesia ditebangi dan hilang setiap tahun Jaringan Aksi Hutan Hujan Kebanyakan kerusakan ini hanya untuk menumbuhkan satu tanaman. Minyak kelapa sawit. ​ Kawasan hutan tropis yang luas dan ekosistem lain dengan nilai konservasi tinggi telah dibuka untuk membuka lahan perkebunan kelapa sawit monokultur yang luas. Pembabatan ini telah menghancurkan habitat kritis bagi banyak spesies yang terancam punah — termasuk Badak, Gajah dan Harimau & Orangutan Sumatera . Membakar hutan untuk memberi ruang bagi tanaman juga merupakan sumber utama emisi gas rumah kaca. Metode budidaya yang intensif telah mengakibatkan pencemaran tanah dan erosi serta pencemaran air. ​ ​ WWF Orangutan Sumatera: Dalam 100 tahun terakhir, populasi Orangutan telah berubah dari sekitar 230.000 menjadi hanya 7.500 yang saat ini tinggal di Ekosistem Leuser di Sumatera Utara. Dan dengan penurunan populasi sekitar 1000 setiap tahunnya, Orangutan Sumatera diambang Kepunahan. Sebagian besar disebabkan oleh rusaknya habitat alami mereka. ​ Habitat orangutan di Sumatera Utara hilang dengan kecepatan yang sangat tinggi, terutama karena kebakaran dan konversi hutan menjadi perkebunan kelapa sawit dan pengembangan pertanian lainnya. Spesies ini bergantung pada hutan berkualitas tinggi. Kebakaran hutan yang meluas, banyak yang sengaja dilakukan untuk membuka lahan untuk perkebunan, menjadi bencana biasa. Kebakaran tidak hanya menghancurkan area habitat orangutan yang luas, tetapi ribuan kera yang bergerak lambat ini diperkirakan telah mati terbakar, tidak dapat melarikan diri dari kobaran api. WWF Apa yang dilakukan Trust: Sedikit Menjadi Bukit Apa ini? ​ Moto kami, "Sedikit Menjadi Menjadi Bukit" yang diterjemahkan dalam bahasa Inggris menjadi "Sedikit demi sedikit kami mendaki gunung" . Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan: Sejak 2019 kami telah menyelaraskan diri dengan Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa, mengadaptasi dan mengembangkan semua program kami untuk bekerja menuju tujuan penting ini. Dengan melakukan itu, kami memastikan bahwa dampak program, relawan, dan staf kami di Indonesia, positif dan bertahan lama. Proyek Pertanian Ekologis: Melalui penyampaian Program Pertanian Ekologis, kami mengajari petani lokal tentang praktik terbaik berkelanjutan, dan bagaimana mereka dapat memiliki pertanian yang sukses tanpa merusak habitat alami. Kami juga mempromosikan penggunaan praktik pertanian alami dan permakultur, serta membantu mendidik masyarakat tentang bahaya penggunaan pestisida dan tanaman kelapa sawit. Penanaman pohon: Kami telah bekerja sama dengan orang-orang luar biasa di Proyek Pertanian Ekologi Erna dan Pembibitan Pohon mereka untuk membantu mempromosikan konservasi regeneratif. Setelah Menanam lebih dari 200 pohon bekerja sama dengan beberapa pemilik lahan, Pembibitan Pohon telah sukses besar. Apalagi! Mulai 2021 kami akan menanam 1 Pohon untuk setiap relawan yang bergabung dengan kami dalam program kami. Pendidikan Konservasi: Selama 13 tahun, kami telah memberikan pendidikan konservasi kepada semua siswa kami dari lebih dari 7 komunitas pedesaan yang berbeda di sepanjang perbatasan Ekosistem Leuser. Ini termasuk pendidikan dalam topik seperti; - Perubahan iklim - Konservasi Habitat & Spesies - Deforestasi & Reboisasi - Daur ulang (termasuk Produksi Bata Ramah Lingkungan) - Polusi & emisi karbon Penjaga Hutan: Pada tahun 2019 kami bekerja sama dengan orang-orang luar biasa di Dokter Hewan Darwin untuk mengembangkan 'Program Penjaga Pemuda'. Program ini mengajarkan siswa kami tentang tugas patroli Penjaga Hutan, konservasi satwa liar, perlindungan lingkungan alam dan kehidupan yang berkelanjutan. Program ini bertujuan untuk menginspirasi siswa kami berempati terhadap alam dan dengan demikian memfasilitasi pelestarian jangka panjangnya. Mengimbangi Emisi Karbon: Kami telah bekerja sama dengan konsorsium mitra lokal kami untuk mengimbangi emisi karbon yang dihasilkan dari penerbangan relawan kami, dengan mendukung inisiatif reboisasi di sepanjang lahan perbatasan Ekosistem Leuser . ​ Tahukah Anda .... rata-rata 1 pohon menghilangkan satu ton CO2 dari atmosfer selama hidupnya. Festival ini mempertemukan ratusan orang dari seluruh dunia untuk membahas pendekatan penanggulangan perubahan iklim di Indonesia. Ini termasuk lebih dari 23 LSM dan 40 organisasi berbeda. ​ Pada festival tahun 2019, organisasi, badan amal, dan individu membuat lebih dari 40 janji publik untuk mendanai sumber daya dan mendukung upaya konservasi di dalam Ekosistem Leuser. ​ Belum lagi kehadiran tamu dari Farwiza Farhan, aktivis iklim dan pelestari lingkungan yang berkomitmen sekaligus Ketua Haka Sumatra. ​ Persiapan untuk Festival Konservasi kami telah dimulai pada tahun 2021 dan Anda diundang!
