English Teacher Scheme

Bukit Lawang Trust runs a free english school for children from Bukit Lawang and surrounding villages. The School sees over seventy children, aged between 6 - 16, each week, and the lessons are free.

The Bukit Lawang Trust is supported by partnership project with the Ana Leaf Foundation to sponsor six English teachers to go out to Bukit Lawang each year.  Each English Teacher is based at the Bukit Lawang Trust Education Centre, and there are six teachers, over the year, each working a two-month placement. The volunteer english  teachers are granted up to £800.00 towards their flights, visas and vaccinations and are provided free accommodation and meals at the Bukit Lawang Trust Education Centre.

The English teachers will preferably be from the Channel Islands, and have a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or TESOL, or CELTA equivalent qualification. We encourage independent applicants, with teaching experience, and varied skills to apply.

The Education Centre runs a free kindergarten downstairs and free english lessons upstairs. There is also a learning resource room upstairs, plus six bedrooms for visiting volunteers, teachers and staff. The teachers will have their own comfortable private room. The teachers will be expected to teach twenty hours a week at the English School to children aged between 6 - 16, and at least three smaller classes in the Learning Resource Centre for older students hoping to go to University.

Interested teachers should email info@bukitlawangtrust.org for an application form and more information.
